I taught children for many years, not as many as school teachers, but maybe enough to observe some human nature. Have I met a truly beautiful child? Ah, Anthony – he grew more and more beautifully. And I can say all children, all human are beautiful in their own way. Yet, because piano is hard to learn and nobody likes to practice, I have often dealt with the negative sides of human. Some kids ignore me to avoid hard work. Some kids pretend to like piano to get a praise. It is rare to find a kid with musical sensitivity or ethical sincerity. Rather, I can say for sure that everybody wants to have fun, no more no less, just like grownups want money for an easier life.
If there exists a person who wants something beyond fun and comfort, they must be special – if someone lives for beliefs and ideal than stability and convenience.
I question the meaning of teaching when students don’t want to learn – because one can only learn, not teach. What is a good teacher then? Have I met a truly good teacher, not the ones who can explain more efficiently and easily, but who can change others? How do you do that?
