Tipping Piercing Artist: Don’t Tip the Jewelry, Tip the Service!

Amity Ink (Caitlin’s Piercing, Maumee, Ohio) was a nice place. Jake, the piercing artist) was gentle and the place was clean. The service was $35 and the jewelry was $150. When I had to pay, though, the iPad checkout prompted the tipping option starting from 30% of $185 + tax, which was $59. I thought it was a lot, but it was my first time, so I assumed that it was their culture??? I ended up paying a lot more than I should have. If you are a first timer, please remember that YOU DON’T HAVE TO TIP THE JEWELRY! Carefully look at how much they charge for the service and tip about 20-25%. I read someone else’s posts about tipping piercing artists and found that other people made the same mistake of tipping the expensive jewelry.
